Happy New Year’s Eve! 12/31/09

I didn’t have to wait to go to Mackinac Island in February to see snow – the white stuff fell last night right here in Arkansas!  Not a lot – but enough to make me a happy camper!

Ted and I left the lake at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning.  Yes, you read that right – 3:30!  Ted loaded luggage, dog beds, dogs, and me into the car, set BOTH GPS systems again, and off we went.  I immediately went to sleep and woke up as the sun was coming up.  We traveled through four states and reached Julie and Matt’s at 4:00 p.m. Arkansas time (1 hour behind Georgia).

I was asleep when we crossed the Alabama line, but managed to stay awake for the other three.

We went right under the Memphis International Airport flight path.

Halfway across the great Mississippi River, you enter the state of Arkansas.

When we made the final turn north (Bentonville is in the northwestern corner of the state), we rode for an hour through mountains that had been covered with snow last week.  Most of it had melted, but in some areas that did not get a lot of sun, it was still evident.

Down in a little valley, these cows were trying to find some grass through the snow.

Melting snow on a hillside.

 After dinner, we opened gifts.

Jordan

What a surprise! Jordan and Matthew painted Ted and I a picture of the Christmas tree in the middle of Main Street on Mackinac Island. It is beautiful, and we will cherish it always.

We went to bed Tuesday night with snow forecast overnight.  When we awoke this morning, there was about an inch on the ground, which had melted by noon.

The first time Bear and Maddie had seen snow. Bear loved it. Maddie - not so much!

We’ve had a great day – mostly spent indoors because the weather has been cold and wet.  Tomorrow Julie, Jordan and I are going shopping for winter gear for me to take to Mackinac Island in February.  You know where the boys will be – watching football, football, and more football!

Here’s wishing you a safe and happy New Year’s Eve and a fantastic New Year.  God bless.

  1. Bree, wishing you, Ted, Bear, Maddie and the rest of your family a wonderful 2010. Looking forward to many more wonderful blogs from Mackinac and Lake Blackshear.

  2. I’m so happy that you got a little taste of snow Brenda..but I bet it’s nothing like Mackinac will be in Feb. I’m still jealous. LOL. I’m glad that your trip went well and have a safe trip home also. Happy New Year to you and yours.

  3. I can’t believe you are going in Feb. That is beyond cool — that is cold! Can hardly wait to see you and the entourage. Drive safely and the Grillades and Grits will be waiting.
